ION CONGRATULATES SUMMER 2016 INTERNS

Eden Prairie, MN: ION Corporation’s commitment to the mentoring and training of Minnesota STEM students has yielded positive internship experiences for many college students over the past 30 years. This year, ION Corporation awarded four internships to STEM students representing the University of Minnesota, Iowa State University, Pensecola Christian College, and the University of St. Thomas. All four interns have majors in STEM related fields and are involved with projects at ION that give them practical knowledge in designing, manufacturing, and testing aircraft and space vehicle systems.

Sophia is a sophomore Mechanical Engineering student at the University of St. Thomas. Her focus of study is in product design, and her passion is developing innovative products that enhance consumer’s lives. At ION, she is assisting in the mechanical engineering department in both design and manufacturing.

Katie is a sophomore Computer Engineering student at the University of Minnesota. At ION she has worked in multiple roles including IT and testing services. As a future computer engineer, her passion is making a positive impact on peoples’ lives through the use of technology, and she is currently involved with a student group that is creating a platform that digitizes land records in Kenya.

Jeff is a senior mechanical engineering student at Pensacola Christian College. As a second-year intern at ION, he has become an integral part of ION’s quality engineering team. After graduation, Jeff is excited about starting his STEM career as either a mechanical or quality engineer.

Anthony is a senior Aerospace Engineering Student at Iowa State University. At ION, Anthony has gained experience in quality control and inventory management. Anthony is very interested in space flight, and he mentions that “interning at ION Corporation is great because we work on components of very large vehicles going to space.” In the time between work and study, Anthony enjoys hitting the links, sailing, and DJing.

Tom Jones, ION’s VP and General Manager, congratulates the intern’s work this summer: “ION is proud to support our STEM interns this summer. We take very seriously our role in pushing these students towards successful STEM careers.”
