ION HIGHLIGHTS STEM INTERNS

Eden Prairie, MN: ION Corporation’s continued commitment to providing internships and mentoring to Minnesota youth has yielded positive experiences for many high school and college students over the past 30 years. This year, ION Corporation has provided three internships to local Minnesota STEM students representing Lehigh University, Iowa State University, and Gustavas Adolphus College. All three interns have majors in STEM related fields (Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering) and have been assigned projects to provide them with practical knowledge on spacecraft systems and subsystems, aircraft specifications and requirements, and materials and methods used for fabrication. ION provides mentoring and training for the students from top engineers in the company and pushes the students to a higher understanding of aerospace systems and the processes used to complete projects.

The interns are given projects including supporting product development teams, providing engineering model documentation support, and quality inspection support. ION’s VP and General Manager, Tom Jones, congratulates the intern’s efforts, “We have been doing this for quite some time, and it always amazes me the number of unique attributes each student has and the enthusiasm they bring to the company. Supporting our local STEM students, and giving them opportunities to learn and apply engineering principles is very important to our organization and overall corporate values. The next generation’s education is paramount, and our President & CEO, Mr. Wendell Maddox and the entire ION team congratulate these students on working hard and pursuing their technical degrees.”

ION Corporation provides engineering, manufacturing and test services to the aerospace, defense, space, and commercial industries. ION delivers engineering and flight qualification services while also providing custom manufacturing services including mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems for the past 30 years.
